SOCIAL STUDIES
Week of June 1 and 7th
June 1-all classes are working on the final for social studies. Students selected their own groups to work with and study a Latin American location of their choice (from the list provided to the students).
June 7th-6th grade end of the year field trip.
June 8 all final written papers are due.
June 8, 10 and 11 -social studies presentation. Groups signed up for the day they wanted to present their final to the class.
June 9th Students will complete the time capsule they began at the beginning of the year.

All students will be focusing on reviewing the skills learned throughout the year starting this week. This review period will last for the next few weeks so we can prepare for a math final on the 11th of June. Any student that already knows they will not be in school on June 11 may take it before they leave for the summer.

We are finally through the Ancient Worlds and will be starting Latin America on Tuesday. Monday is the chapter 7 test for Rome and students will turn in their books.
The red Latin America book will be kept in the class room instead of having students ravel around with them.
Tuesday we will start the book with a lesson about the geography of Latin America. Wednesday students will complete the atlas activity and then we will begin chapter 1.

Cummulative review test will be on Friday, May 14.

FOR ALL STUDENTS, PARENTS, CAREGIVERS...
The sixth grade students will be bringing home "THURSDAY FOLDERS" starting tomorrow, April 29th.
All tests and important information for parents/caregivers will be enclosed in the folder every Thursday for a signature, to be returned to the homeroom teacher on Friday. If students should forget to return the folder and its contents on Friday their will be consequences for the student. Loss of recess for the first day, second day a call home and a loss of recess, third day a level 2 referral with detention.
Providence Creek Academy teachers are required to keep student portfolios up to date with evidence of student academic progress. It is important that all assessments taken by the students be reviewed, signed by a caregiver and returned for the student portfolio.

All classes will begin Chapter 7 Ancient Rome. Classes will work on section 1 reading and section review then vocabulary. Classes will progress through the chapter and by the end of the week will be completing section 3. Students should be reading the chapter on their own for homework to be prepared for class discussion each day.

Social Studies
All social studies classes are giving their oral presentations and they are great. All classes will be completing oral presentations by the end of the week and we will finish up ancient Greece next week.
The oral presentation is a large part of the third trimester grade for students. Any student that did not turn in the power point project at the end of the second trimester must do so before this Friday so they can present their project to the class.
Social Studies B had their reward party before the break and really enjoyed themselves. Mrs. Bloemker took pictures and made copies for the students. The group shots turned out great. Some photos will be included in the next classroom newsletter.

This week we start Ancient Greece in all classes. We will continue Ancient Greece after the spring break-the week of April 19.
The week of April 12 we will take a break from the book and have oral presentations in each class. Students will present their power point project to their class. Schedules are posted in the back of Mrs. Bloemker's room and in the classroom newsletter.
Social Studies B will celebrate their display of great citizenship for the first half of the year with a party on Wednesday, March 31 during their scheduled class time. Any parent of a Social Studies B student that would like to donate a party item or money for pizza, please let Mrs. Bloemker know by Monday, March 29.

All oral presentations for the week of April 12-16 (the week after spring break) have been scheduled and are posted on the board in the back of Mrs. Bloemker's room.
Students must bring their flash drive with the power point presentation on it the day they are assigned to present, along with any additional materials or information they will to share with the class about their selected topic.
Each student will have 8 minutes to make their presentation to the class.

All social studies classes are working on Ancient China. We completed the vocabulary, key terms and places. All classes read section 1, chapter 5 and completed the review questions. Friday is the rescheduled Maryland Science Center Field Trip.

The rest of the week the students will be starting Ancient China, Chapter 5. The classes will focus on vocabulary, key terms and key people. Students should read one section of the chapter each evening and be prepared to discuss the section review questions in class the following day.
Tuesday evening's assignment will be to read Section 1 (pages 123-128) so the class may discuss section one review questions on Wednesday.

SOCIAL STUDIES
All classes are working on Ancient Egypt. This week students did a route map activity involving a caravan, created a graphic organizer for the levels os Egyptian society, worked on a skill building activity, completed a writing assignment about the four accomplishments of the ancient Egyptians, read a story about the Egyptians and answered questions about the reading, reviewed the vocabulary and will play a game called 'Mummy Rummy' on Friday.
Test on Ancient Egypt will be on Monday, March 8 for all classes.

All classes are working on their technology projects. We've had two opportunities now to work on computers during class time to complete research for the storyboards that are due Thursday, February 25. The final power point project (on the flashdrive) is due on March 19th.
This project is a requirement by the State of Delaware for all middle school students. If this project is not turned in on March 19th, the student will receive a 50% for the project. Students were given a power point presentation and a packet of information about the project on January 5. I wanted to be sure the students had at least 6 weeks to complete their research for the storyboards. The power point project will only take 15-20 minutes to complete once the story board is approved. Student will have 3 weeks to complete the power point project once the storyboards are approved.

Due to the unexpected snow storm the Chapter 2 test on Ancient Worlds has been changed to Friday, February 19.
Also, the storyboards for the technology project originally due February 12 are now due February 25. This is to accomodate those students that do not have computer access at home. We had two class periods scheduled for the computer lab, but due to the snow we were not in school to take advantage of the computer lab. Students will work in the lab before the 25th so they may complete their storyboards.

Welcome back after a snowy, unexpected break!
- Buddy photos are $5 and (for 6th grade) will be taken on Thursday, February 25 from 11:10-11:45am.

Math B and C started Try, Check and Revise in Chapter 3 on Monday. Mid-week both classes will start Metrics in Chapter 9, starting on page 431.

This week in Math A the students are working on integers. We will add, subtract, multiply and divide integers. This is Chapter 10 in the book.

All classes played " Review Jeopardy" for Chapter 2, sections 1 , 2 and 3 today- Monday, January 25.
Field Trip on Tuesday-no social studies classes will meet.
Wednesday-all classes will take the Quiz on Chapter 2/Sections 1, 2 and 3.
Thursday all classes will start Section 4 in Chapter 2.

All classes were given the technology project information. Students are to select their topic by tomorrow and begin researching their topics this week. Class time will be set aside to work on the project each week. Storyboards will be collected and reviewed for topic, sources and student progress. Due dates and rubric will be given out by the end of the week.
Students will continue in chapter 2 this week in conjunction with working on the tech. project.

All social studies classes are working on finding Geo Cleo on page 2-7 in their books. Students are working in groups to answer thought provoking questions on where to find Geo Cleo in the ancient world.
On Wednesday students take a break from social studies to participate in "What's my line?" and career day activity. Students will have a visit from three individuals from the business world and will be given the opportunity to ask questions to determine what line of work each person is in. Once their line of work has been guessed, the class may ask questions about their line of work.

Math A took an oral quiz today to assess their knowledge of multiplying fractions. This week Math A will move on to percents, fractions and decimal conversions. Page 294, section 6-6 in their books.
Math B and C spent Monday finishing their quiz on sections 5-1 through 5-4. The rest of the week will be spent on mathematical vocabulary and starting integers on page 497 in sections 10-1, 10-2.
HOMEWORK-

All social studies classes turned in their blue United States and Canada books on Monday.
On Tuesday, all students were issued the gold book: The Ancient World. We will begin working in this book on Wednesday.
During the second trimester students will work on a technology project in social studies. The project will be explained to the students next week and a copy of suggested topics dealing with the ancient world will be given to the students.
All students will need a flash drive stick for this project. Inexpensive flash drives may be found a Walmart, Kmart and Happy Harry's/Walgreens stores. Students should have their flash drives by January 19th.
All students were given their Chapter 5 test grades on Tuesday and their homework is to get their agenda book (test grade) signed by a parent. I am so PROUD of all of the students! Test grades were GREAT! All that studying sure did pay off! Great job 6th grade.

Math A is reviewing multiplying mixed numbers. Students are doing practice problems to get back in the swing of things after the holiday break.
Math B is reviewing dividing fractions. Students are doing practice problems to get back in the swing of things after the holiday break.
Math C is reviewing solving fraction equations by multiplying. Students are doing practice problems to get back in the swing of things after the holiday break. Math C had problems 18-30 on page 244 for homework on Monday evening. Homework for Tuesday is to show their parents their math quiz grade and get their agenda book signed.
