SOCIAL STUDIES

This week we start Ancient Greece in all classes. We will continue Ancient Greece after the spring break-the week of April 19.

The week of April 12 we will take a break from the book and have oral presentations in each class. Students will present their power point project to their class. Schedules are posted in the back of Mrs. Bloemker's room and in the classroom newsletter.

Social Studies B will celebrate their display of great citizenship for the first half of the year with a party on Wednesday, March 31 during their scheduled class time. Any parent of a Social Studies B student that would like to donate a party item or money for pizza, please let Mrs. Bloemker know by Monday, March 29.

MATH

All classes will wrap up polygons, triangles, lines, segments, rays and angles.

HOMEROOM

Week of March 29, 2010

Washington DC field trip permission slips are due no later than Wed., March 31.

Thursday, April 1 is service learning day and the gathering when the students return to school.

Friday, April 2 to Monday, April 12 is Spring Break-NO school.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Week of March 22, 2010

All classes will review Chapter 5 Ancient China this week in preparation for their chapter test on Thursday, March 25.

All oral presentations for the week of April 12-16 (the week after spring break) have been scheduled and are posted on the board in the back of Mrs. Bloemker's room.

Students must bring their flash drive with the power point presentation on it the day they are assigned to present, along with any additional materials or information they will to share with the class about their selected topic.

Each student will have 8 minutes to make their presentation to the class.

MATH

Week of March 22, 2010

MATH A-students are continuing with geometry this week. We will review rays, lines, segments and points from last week and then begin triangles on page 392. This week will be spent on triangles and Polygons (page 397).

MATH B and C- students will review last week's material on rays, lines, segments, points and triangles and begin polygons on page 397.

Social Studies

Week of March 15, 2010

All social studies classes are working on Ancient China. We completed the vocabulary, key terms and places. All classes read section 1, chapter 5 and completed the review questions. This week social studies classes will meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons to continue their discussion on Ancient China.

Friday is the rescheduled Maryland Science Center Field Trip.

MATH

Week of March 15, 2010

DSTP testing continues this week on Monday and Tuesday.

Math class will be held Monday afternoon after the reading DSTP is completed for today. All classes will be working on proportions (6-3), starting on page 278-9.

Normal math classes will resume on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday is the re-scheduled field trip to the Maryland Science Center.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Monday, March 8, 2010

All classes will take the chapter test for Aniceint Egypt on Monday, March 8.

The rest of the week the students will be starting Ancient China, Chapter 5. The classes will focus on vocabulary, key terms and key people. Students should read one section of the chapter each evening and be prepared to discuss the section review questions in class the following day.

Tuesday evening's assignment will be to read Section 1 (pages 123-128) so the class may discuss section one review questions on Wednesday.

Wednesday evening's assignment will be to read section 2 (pages 129-133) so the class may discuss section two review questions on Thursday.

Thursday evening's assignment will be to read section 3 (pages 134-139) so the class may discuss the section three review questions on Friday.

MATH

Monday, March 8, 2010

All classes will have review for DSTP starting on Wednesday.

Math DSTP will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, March 10 & 11. Students should get to bed early the night prior to each testing day so they are well rested and ready to take the DSTP. Breakfast items will be available in the class for students that want something to eat before testing begins.

BLOEMKER Homeroom-any parent that would like to send in a breakfast item or a $1.00 (for me to purchase items) please let me know by the end of school on Tuesday (3/9). I will be shopping Tuesday evening for items we still need for breakfast on Wednesday and Thursday.

SOCIAL STUDIES

All classes are working on Ancient Egypt. This week students did a route map activity involving a caravan, created a graphic organizer for the levels os Egyptian society, worked on a skill building activity, completed a writing assignment about the four accomplishments of the ancient Egyptians, read a story about the Egyptians and answered questions about the reading, reviewed the vocabulary and will play a game called 'Mummy Rummy' on Friday.

Test on Ancient Egypt will be on Monday, March 8 for all classes.

MATH

WEEK of March 1, 2010

All classes are working on DSTP prep.

Students reviewed exponents, order of operations, meaning of percents, changing fractions to decimals and percents, finding the perimeter of a shape, mathematical vocabulary and solving
equations/expressions with x.

Friday is a 'pop' quiz on vocabulary for B and C. Math A will take it on Monday, March 8.

DSTP for math will be held on March 10 and 11.
